WORKOUT WITHOUT WEIGHTS REVIEW
May 28th, 2007I must admit when I purchased Coach Eddie Lomax’s WORKOUT WITHOUT WEIGHTS course I was more than a bit skeptical, being a dyed-in-the-wool hard core, old school as they come bodybuilder, for too many years to count. I thought shoot, this so-called exercise program wasn’t even going to cause me to break-a-sweat.
I mean, I can crank out push-ups, chins, pull-ups and dips with the best of them, and those are bodyweight exercises, right?
Yes, the above are bodyweight exercises, but those just scratch the surface. For example I had never heard of the HUMAN-X exercise, trust me, it is a killer move, that you’ll WANT to do for your abs.
Another thing that surprised me about the course was the variety; Mr. Lomax gives you plenty of exercises to choose from, beginner to advanced, there is something in this book for everyone.
For simplicity’s sake I’m going to make a list, breaking down what I feel are the worst and best points, in Mr. Lomax’s WORKOUT WITHOUT WEIGHTS course.
WORKOUT WITHOUT WEIGHTS—NEGATIVES
The course is 289 pages, now this might not seem to be a negative to some, but coming from an athletic background, I’ve learned early that getting started is the hardest part and I’m worried that some people may be over whelmed when they first see the course and do the worst possible thing, nothing.
The other flaw I see in the course is that I worry that some people may see the words bodyweight only and not take the exercises seriously and as a consequence get hurt doing them.
There is a thought in bodybuilding that when the weights get light, you don’t concentrate as much as you should, your form breaks down and here comes an injury.
WORKOUT WITHOUT WEIGHTS—POSITIVES
Really this course opens up fitness for everyone, what I mean by this is, if you don’t have time to go to the gym or can’t afford a home gym, hey don’t sweat it, this book will get you fit if your not, and keep you fit if you all ready are, and can’t get to the gym as much as you’d like.
It is also perfect for people who travel; you don’t even have to leave your hotel room to get in a great workout.
Plus there are two more benefits that I hesitate to mention, but in the interest of helping everyone I will.
First, I can’t even count how many times I’ve heard it, I’d go to the gym, but I’m in such bad shape that I’m embarrassed to go.
This book is perfect for them, they can do the exercises in the comfort of their home or apartment, dressed any way they want, and best of all they can work up to the advanced exercises at THEIR own pace, with no pressure.
If you know someone whose has said this, please even if you don’t get them this book, get them something, to get them on the road to improved fitness.
And second, if you are like a lot of us growing up and are very skinny and not very strong, this book is perfect.
Since you can do these exercises wherever is best for you, it is no big deal if you can only do one or two reps on some of the exercises. In fact, this could be the best thing that ever happened to you.
Why?
Instead of going to the gym and pushing yourself to do too much too fast and getting hurt, you can move at your own pace and establish a strong, very strong base of fitness and strength that will help you if you decide to hit the gym one day.
For easy reference, Coach Eddie Lomax breaks down the upper body exercises from basic through advanced in one section of the book, and does the same for the trunk (meaning abdominal exercises) and for the lower body exercises as well.
All-in-all it was a very good read.
